Every Card, Precisely Defined

At CAG, every card is evaluated with meticulous care—from flawless Pristine 10s to well-loved classics. Our comprehensive grading system ensures collectors and investors alike understand the exact condition, quality, and collectible value of each card, preserving every legacy with clarity and precision.

CAG Pristine 10

The CAG Pristine 10 grade represents the pinnacle of perfection, awarded only to cards that meet the strictest standards of quality and craftsmanship. Pristine 10 cards feature flawless centering (50/50 on the front and no worse than 55/45 on the back), razor-sharp corners, immaculate edges, and a pristine surface devoid of print spots, registration issues, scratches, or metallic print lines.

To achieve this grade, a card must receive a Pristine grade from at least 2 out of 3 expert graders, with no grader awarding less than a 10. If a card receives one Pristine grade and two 10s, it will be assigned the lowest grade given. This grade is reserved for cards that represent the very best in collectability and quality.

CAG Gem Mint 10

The CAG Gem Mint 10 grade reflects exceptional quality, just shy of absolute perfection. Cards graded Gem Mint 10 feature sharp corners, clean edges, and immaculate surfaces with full original gloss. Centering must fall within 55/45 on the front and 75/25 on the back.

A minor manufacturing flaw, such as a subtle print speck, is acceptable but must not detract from the card’s overall appeal. This grade represents the elite standard for most high-quality collectibles.

CAG Mint 9

The CAG Mint 9 grade is assigned to cards with near-perfect features but minor imperfections visible under close inspection. Corners remain sharp, edges are clean, and the surface retains its original gloss.

Minor flaws, such as a faint print line or subtle edge wear, may be present. Centering tolerances extend to 60/40 on the front and 85/15 on the back.

CAG Near Mint-Mint 8

The CAG Near Mint-Mint 8 grade is reserved for cards that display only light handling. Corners may exhibit slight wear, edges remain clean, and the surface retains its visual appeal.

Subtle imperfections, like faint edge wear or minor print defects, are allowed. Centering should fall within 65/35 on the front and 90/10 on the back.

CAG Near Mint 7

The CAG Near Mint 7 grade applies to cards that show light evidence of wear while maintaining strong presentation. Corners may exhibit gentle rounding, and edges may show minimal chipping.

The surface retains its structural integrity with only minor flaws like faint scratches or print spots. Centering tolerances extend to 70/30 on the front and 90/10 on the back.

CAG Excellent-Near Mint 6

The CAG Excellent-Mint 6 grade is assigned to cards with moderate wear that retain solid presentation. Corners may display noticeable touches, edges may have light chipping, and the surface could show minor flaws such as faint creases or scratches. Centering allowances extend to 75/25 on the front and 90/10 on the back.

CAG Excellent 5

The CAG Excellent 5 grade indicates a card with visible wear from handling but still presents well. Corners may be softened, edges may have light chipping, and the surface may display creases, mild discoloration, or scratches.

Centering tolerances are 80/20 on the front and 90/10 on the back.

CAG Very Good-Excellent 4

The CAG Very Good-Excellent 4 grade applies to cards with evident signs of handling and wear but maintains collectible appeal. Corners and edges show wear, and the surface may exhibit moderate creases, scratches, or light stains. Centering tolerances extend to 85/15 on the front and 90/10 on the back.

CAG Very Good 3

The CAG Very Good 3 grade reflects a card with heavy wear from regular handling. Corners are rounded, edges may show chipping, and surface flaws such as creases, scratches, or staining are more pronounced. Centering tolerances extend to 90/10 on both the front and back.

CAG Good 2

The CAG Good 2 grade represents a card with significant wear and age. Corners are heavily rounded, edges are worn, and the surface may exhibit substantial creases, stains, or fading. Despite this, the card remains structurally intact, with centering tolerances of 90/10 on both sides.

CAG Poor 1

The CAG Poor 1 grade is for cards with severe damage or extensive wear. Common flaws include tears, holes, discoloration, and heavy surface wear. Centering is not a primary factor at this grade, and extreme misalignment is acceptable, with tolerances up to 90/10 on both sides.

CAG Half Grades

CAG also employs half grades to offer a more nuanced assessment. Half grades reflect cards that display characteristics of two grades, bridging the gap between them. For instance, a card graded CAG 9.5 has attributes exceeding the Mint 9 standard but doesn’t fully meet the Gem Mint 10 criteria.

Half grades enhance precision, offering collectors a clearer understanding of their card’s condition. This transparency ensures every card receives an accurate and fair evaluation.
